Mail Forwarding

Mail forwarding services are great for folks who travel (domestic and international), students, folks who will be away from home for a time and virtually anyone who will be away from their mail. For example, suppose you’re retired and would like to travel the United States. Some people like to travel using a recreational vehicle (RV for short). This allows you to travel for months at a time (without returning home). You might like to stay in an RV park for a few months – then move to another RV park. One of the biggest concerns people have is regarding their mail. How will they receive it? How will they receive their bills and pay them on time? This is where a mail forwarding company is most useful.

For a fee, most mail forwarding companies will agree to receive your mail – forward it to any location. Another beauty of a mail forwarding company is they can scan your mail – then email it to you. You might even have them destroy all of your “junk mail” – forwarding only your most important mail. A good mail forwarding company will perform this service as well.

Different mail forwarding companies charge different types of fees. A smart practice is to make sure the mail forwarding company will charge you a base rate. You don’t want to find out about hidden charges later. Also, it’s not uncommon for a mail forwarding company to require you to sign a contract (sometimes for a few months) – requiring a deposit. This is necessary because the mail forwarding company will need to set up your account and submit paperwork to the United States Postal Service.

Another great benefit of certain mail forwarding companies such as Texas Home Base is that you might be able to change the state of your legal residency. For example, you might be able to become a client – having a Texas mailing address – then change your state of residency to Texas where there is no state income tax. Obviously you would need to consult with your financial advisor before doing this – however, it is an option.

Lastly, mail forwarding companies are required to comply with United States Postal Service guidelines. You can rest easy knowing your mail forwarding company is working within the guidelines established to protect your best interest. Enjoy your days of travel and don’t fear using a mail forwarding service.
